Contracting in 2012

It’s been a couple of months now since I left my last role, and I’ve enjoyed my time off, much relaxing, visiting friends and more than a little learning and experimentation (with Puppet and Ruby) later, it’s time to get back to work.

Having spent two years working full time in London, and more than ten years before that developing in PHP and running Linux systems, I decided earlier this month that rather going for another full-time position, I would instead at least spend some time contracting, as a way to expand my horizons by working on a number of different projects this year. The tax and pay implications are also quite positive.

The hard part of this is, of course, finding the contracts, and especially a first, though with so much experience, I’m not foreseeing a huge problem, and instead have been just a little bit picky for my first contract to get a project I’m well suited for, and can make a good impression with.
